ON FEMALE FILMMAKING

You know I teach American Cinema and Culture,

I constantly think: “Can I just find some female filmmakers and celebrate their work”?

And of course I discovered a few of them

Next week I am going to introduce Maya Daren, who is an experimental artist,

Who is very innovative in filmmaking.

I ultimately think women has the great potential to become a great filmmaker.

I think we are very sensitive, intuitive and very visual.

We think very deeply,

We should just be daring enough to endure the darkness

while we are working inside the tunnel.

Because a lot of time you are not supported fincially, you are alone,

You don’t even have a family when you do this kind of work.

So therefore we should stand the test of God, of art.

so we can come out as a true artist

 

ON FILMMAKING & PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I think all film makers relate their own experience with their work.

Think about it how can you make a film without relating to something you have experienced.

Steve Spielberg did the E.T about this boy fanaticizing about the outer world,

IT’s based on his relationship with his family, his loneliness.

He wasn’t really careful for

Every filmmaker relates to themselves.

I think art is self-expression.

So you should express yourself

That doesn’t mean you are not representing others.

So there is fine balance one has to find.

 

ON INDEPENDENT FILM MAKING

As independent film maker, I have to do everything.

I have to come up with the money, I have to find the idea

and then I have to get out to shoot it then I have to come back edit it,

and then I , hopefully I don’t have to sell my film,

hopefully someone, well, there is no someone, just want to buy it.

So that all takes time.

才有可能练就成为真正的艺术家

 

独立电影与个人经历

每个电影人的创作往往取材于自己的经历

仔细想想：你不可能脱离自己的经验感受创作

斯比尔伯格亦如此 他ET中的男孩就是基于他自己

他幼时没有足够家庭温暖 幻想另一个世界

电影就是源于他的孤独

 

每个电影人都会提取于自己的经验

艺术就是自我表达

这并不意味着你不代表他人

自我和他人的平衡需找到

 

独立电影制作

做为独立电影人 我需要做每个环节

需要独立解决资金 创意

外出拍摄 回来剪辑

希望我不必再需要自己卖片子

但发行人也不会自动找上门来

所有环节都需要时间
